Wanakena Historical Association
The Wanakena Historical Associa or (WHA) was formed in the year 2000 to: preserve historic sites and structures in the hamlet of Wanakena; disseminate and encourage greater knowledge of the history of the hamlet of Wanakena; gather, preserve, display and make available materials relating to the history of Wanakena.

ACCOMPLISHMENTS:
Created and maintain the Otto J Hamele walking tour of Wanakena history, which attracts hundreds of visitors every year. Publish newsletters that have included: original research; personal stories, Iand information on events of interest. Assisted in planning for the 100th anniversary celebration of the NYS Ranger School in 2012. Coordinated photo contests to encourage visitors (adults and youth) to appreciate the beauty of the area.
VOLUNTEERING / DONATING
All events and publications are accomplished using volunteers who from Wanaekna and the C-F area. All publications, displays and maintenance of the historic tour is paid for by donations and annual dues by members of the WHA. Some projects have had support using local grants.
GOALS / PLANS FOR THE FUTURE
Collecting donations and planning events that will raise funds to pay for the rebuilding of the footbridge. Plan events that will bring families, tourists and visitors to Wanakena and the C-F area. Develop program to display pictures and artifacts across the Adirondack Park to highlight the C-F area and encourage visitors to the Western Adirondacks
