This area was once owned by the The Schuler family, whose fortune was made in potato chips. In a time where beetles were ravaging potato crops,they grew a "experimental potatoes" in the area near Streeter Lake now referred to as the "Potato Patch" A beautiful Mausoleum was erected on this property upon they're passing and serves as the Schuler Family's final resting place.
Not far from this location, is beautiful Crystal Lake with its clear water and an "imported" sand beach which is Well worth the extra effort to visit.
Two trailheads provide access to Streeter Lake and its lean-to.
Streeter Lake from Oswegatchie
From NYS HWY 3 in Star Lake turn onto Oswegatchie Trail Rd. Continue to follow Oswegatchie Trail for just under 2-miles to Coffin Mills Road on the left. Then follow Coffin Mills Road for 3.5 miles to Streeter Lake Road on the left. Continue down Street Lake Road to its end.

Streeter Lake from Youngs Road In Star Lake
This 3.5 mile trail will lead you back to Streeter Lake. This is the route to take if you're looking for a nice hiking experience. In the summer the trail can be a bit wet in spots but it is still a nice hike in the woods.
Trailhead Location:
From the intersection of Youngs Road and Route 3 follow Youngs Road for 1.75 miles or so to the trailhead on the right.
Trail uses:Hike, snowshoe, XC Ski, Mountain Bike, Snowmobile
Streeter Mountain
Streeter Mountain is a short hike along a well-developed trail that passes by Streeter Lake and leads toward Star Lake. The bushwhack is an easy 0.5 miles through an open hardwood forest with limited views through the trees, but does make for a wonderful hike through an undeveloped wilderness area.
