Chaumont Pond/ Chaumont Swamp
Newton Falls
Although technically Chaumont Pond and Chaumont Swamp are part of the Oswegatchie River and is simply a widening of the river. the waters here though, are flat and easy to paddle with very little current.
Paddle the shallows near the swamp and take in some great birding opportunities as you watch great blue herons feed on the smaller fish, and the kingfishers touring the shores in this diverse aquatic habitat.
Launch Directions
From the main intersection in the Hamlet of Newton Falls follow River Road toward Cranberry Lake. Continue for around 2-miles for a small public launch area on the right.
