      "Where wilderness meets water"

      CLIFTON-FINE

Cat Mountain Pond / Cowhorn Pond

      "Five Ponds Wilderness Area"

      Wanakena

Cat Mountain Pond and Cowhorn Pond

This is a 7.4 mile one way hike to Cowhorn Pond, located deep in the backwoods of the

      "Five Ponds Wilderness".

      Follow the trail to

      "Cat Mountain"

and at the final spur for Cat Mountain, take a right.

From the Cat mountain spur the trail remains very mellow but does slightly descend to the Shore of Cat Mountain Pond about 0.5 miles away. The trail remains along the SW shore of the pond before it makes a very sharpturn north toward Cowhorn Pond.

The lean-to is at the north end of Cowhorn Pond, a great destination for an extended outing and a very scenic spot for a longer day hike.

      Trailhead Location:

From the intersection of Route 3 and CR61 (Wanakena Road) follow CR61 and stay straight on the main road to South Shore Road. Follow South Shore Road for 0.6 miles to the trailhead parking on the right.

Trail uses: Hiking, Snowshoeing, XC ski
